Susana grew up in the East Bay and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare from UC Berkeley. After graduation, she joined BTSV as an AmeriCorps Academic Advisor in 2024, working with 9th and 10th grade students.
In her current role as College Advising Coordinator, Susana advises 11th grade students conducting college and major research, with the highlight of the year being the overnight trip to visit six campuses in SoCal. She also supports 12th grade students with their college and financial aid applications through group workshops and 1:1 advising.
Before transferring to Cal, Susana earned an AA in Social Work & Human Services from Chabot College, and educating fellow first-gen students about transfer pathways is one of her passions.
Susana’s favorite background music while she works is the Ratatouille soundtrack.
“What motivates me to do this work is that I get to support other first-generation students on their path to higher education, and my favorite part of my job is meeting with my students and hearing about their extracurriculars and interests.”
