BTSV Class of 2018 - notre dame de namur

Unlike many of my friends, I always loved school. I was that kid in class with LOTS of questions. In middle school, it was easy to get As, but when I got to high school, I started struggling. Six weeks into my freshman year, my only grade above C was in PE. I was embarrassed. I was in classes of 30 kids who seemed to “get it.” But, I didn’t. I didn’t feel comfortable raising my hand to ask questions because I didn’t want to slow the class down. It seemed like my teachers wanted to push through, and you either got it or you didn’t. When Breakthrough called to discuss my grades, I started crying because I knew I could do better. I knew I was capable of more. Good grades are important in my family. But my parents didn’t go to college; they didn’t finish high school. So it broke their hearts seeing me struggle on homework and not be able to help me themselves.

We turned to Breakthrough for help. I spent 5 hours at Breakthrough every day after school. I was the first to arrive and the last to leave. It was quiet, and I could focus. Soon I found my rhythm. Breakthrough matched me with tutors that patiently answered even my toughest Honors Biology questions. By the end of my first semester, I brought all my grades up to As! Now when I see my grades and my 3.8 GPA, there are no more tears, only celebration. Thanks to Breakthrough, I am college bound.
