Abby started as the College Access Program Manager in summer 2024, but it wasn’t her first role at BTSV — she was inspired to pursue a career in education after spending a summer as a Teaching Fellow (7th grade writing)! She also later spent two summers as an Instructional Coach.
Abby has a B.A. in Literature and a minor in Education from UC Santa Barbara and an M.A. in Teaching of English from the Stanford Teacher Education Program. She taught middle school English Language Arts in South San Francisco for six years.
In her role, Abby leads the programming for 9th and 10th grade students and manages a team of AmeriCorps members. During the school year, she advises students on goal setting, academic readiness, and extracurricular participation, as well as facilitating workshops and planning campus field trips (including to her alma mater, Stanford). Over the summer, she serves as the Dean of Students for the 9th grade summer program.
Abby is also a ceramicist and especially loves throwing pieces on the wheel.
“My favorite part of my work is seeing the growth of AmeriCorps members as they develop professional skills, gain confidence in their abilities, and lead students and staff. I also love cheering on students as they compete in Spirit Week over the summer, and seeing the bonds they have made with other students.”
