Breakthrough Silicon Valley awarded $1.4 Million dollars in AmeriCorps Funding to support first-gen students.

SAN JOSE, CA – Breakthrough Silicon Valley announced today that it has been awarded a multi-year grant of 1.4 million dollars from AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism. Funding will support 180 AmeriCorps members over the next three years to help prepare motivated students with limited educational opportunities for success in rigorous college-preparatory high school programs and entry into four-year colleges.

Breakthrough Silicon Valley will leverage the skills and experience of AmeriCorps Members who will provide enhanced one on one support for over 550 students while also adding capacity to recruit, support, and steward volunteers.

We couldn’t be more excited to partner with AmeriCorps and California Volunteers to amplify our impact in Silicon Valley. Corps Members will be advisors, teachers, coaches, and mentors who will deepen the support we offer to first-gen students on their path to and through college. The AmeriCorps partnership is such a great fit for our students-teaching-students model. Through their service at Breakthrough, we hope to inspire our Corps Members to become future leaders, educators, and advocates for equity.”, said John Hiester, Executive Director.

Breakthrough Silicon Valley is currently looking for individuals to serve as full-time AmeriCorps Members from September 18, 2022, through August 4, 2023. Click here for more information and to apply
