I’ve learned at Breakthrough that success is determined by our actions, not where we live. Success is determined by our effort, not who our parents are or where they work. I learned about the beauty of freedom. Kiara, 7th grader

I plan to go to U.C. Berkeley and major in math. I know math may not seem like the most exciting subject in the world but it’s really exciting to me. At Breakthrough, I’m able to learn and get ahead. I will be in Algebra II as a high school freshman. Miguel, 8th grader

Ever since I was a child I have dreamt of being successful. My mom works very hard, but she never finished high school. In 6th grade I became passionate about science. I love doing labs and creating models and objects, like engineers do. I enjoy mixing chemicals and seeing the outcome, as a chemists do. I look forward to gaining knowledge and being a positive contribution to the community. Agustin, 9th grader

Breakthrough has helped me through many things: getting into high school, choosing classes, getting accepted and finding the funds to attend a summer program at Brown University. When I think what my life would have been if Breakthrough had not been there for me, I think “Man, I would have been completely lost.” Breakthrough has truly been a life-changing experience. Breakthrough is a place where I feel at peace. It is a place where even though I might feel like it is the end of the world, I will be reminded that I can overcome anything.
