Employment Opportunities
As a growing program, Breakthrough Silicon Valley seeks talented individuals who are committed to our mission of preparing highly-motivated students with limited educational opportunities for success in high school, college and beyond.
Breakthrough Leadership Program | Program Intern
The Breakthrough Leadership Program was founded in order to develop the next generation of educators, program managers and community leaders through a hands-on, impactful undergraduate internship in a highly-effective non-profit organization. This one-year program is an opportunity for candidates to develop leadership and project management skills in the education and non-profit sectors while making a meaningful impact in the educational outcomes of under-served students in Silicon Valley.
The program intern will work with a dynamic, experienced staff to implement a variety of projects in our summer and after-school programs. To prepare for the role, the intern will participate in on-going training and coaching from our administrative team, focusing on skills in project planning, educational best practices and personnel management.

Summer Teaching Program | Mentor Teachers
We are seeking highly effective professional teachers to serve as mentor teachers for summer 2013. Mentor teachers are at the core of our summer program and play a crucial role by training, supervising and supporting Breakthrough teaching interns in becoming effective instructors and leaders. As instructional leaders, they observe our teachers, deliver feedback and assist in lesson planning. Furthermore, mentor teachers have a unique opportunity to shape the professional path of tomorrow’s educators.
During the summer, our teaching interns instruct classes which include a core academic subject (i.e. English, math or science) while also teaching an elective course of their choice. As subject area experts, mentor teachers help our interns transform their passion into rigorous and engaging lessons. BSV also implements a specific teacher training sequence, known as the Intern Teacher Training Initiative (ITTI), which includes best practices from Dr. Robert Marzano’s research, Doug Lemov’s Teach Like A Champion and other widely-known teaching publications.
