Are You Smarter Event

Every October, we host our annual benefit event “Are You Smarter Than a Breakthrough Student?” to raise money in support of Breakthrough Silicon Valley programs.  You are invited to come and compete against the best and brightest of Silicon Valley!

Are-You-Smarter1

All attendees participate in an intensely fun competition of wits – an academic trivia contest – that raises money to support existing Breakthrough Silicon Valley programs and fuel our expansion.

Are you up for the challenge? Here are a few questions from our past events:

  1. How many moons are known to orbit the planet Mars?
  2. If x + y = 3 and x – y = 11 what are the values of x and y?
  3. In which city is Lorraine Hansberry’s play “A Raisin in the Sun” set?

Teams of competitors have included local business executives from Apple, Applied Materials, eBay, EMC Corporation, Lexus of Stevens Creek, Technology Credit Union, Oracle, Google, Wells Fargo, the Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich and Rosati Foundation as well as staff from Hillbrook School and the San Jose Unified School District. The adults pit intellects against the highly talented Breakthrough students.
